   I. Brief Introduction to the Election of Little Messengers for World Expo: as a permanent establishment, the Organization Committee for the Election of Little Messengers for World Expo among Students in Primary and Middle Schools in Shanghai has conducted the Election of Little Messengers for World Expo with the World Expo as its theme and millions of juveniles in the city as its main objects throughout the city in recent years under the guidance of Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Committee of Communist Youth League, Out-of-School Education Working Team of East China and Out-of-School Education Professional Commission of Shanghai Municipal Education Association. This event is the only municipal-level contest registered and reported by the Bureau of World Expo with students as the main participators to play along with the official line. So far since 2004, four terms of this event have been held with nearly 200,000 students from primary and middle schools participating in them and over 400 Little Messengers for World Expo elected.

    Common efforts from all walks of the society are required to hold a term of successful, brilliant and memorable World Expo. Millions of students from primary and middle schools of the city are a major force for a successful World Expo. The election is aimed to guide the juveniles to participate in the World Expo propaganda as masters, to set up a bridge of friendship for teenagers all over the country while providing a stage for teenagers from Shanghai and other cities in China to display their talents, and to foster and reserve top-ranking teams of Little Messengers for World Expo through the event.

   This year’s election will start in late October and end in early January of 2009. There will be two major series of events in the election, namely Propaganda Performance Tour of Little Messengers for World Expo (i.e. General Election of Art Troupe of the Little Messengers for World Expo) and the Election of Greeting Juveniles of World Expo.

    Brief Introduction of English Grand Prize Contest among Middle School Students: “English Grand Prize Contest among Shanghai Middle School Students to Welcome World Expo 2010” is an English competition among middle school students, which has gained deep concerns and direct guidance from the leaders of Shanghai Education Committee, Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination and the Committee of Communist Youth League.
